Darting history reverberated around the globe as Prince of the Palace, Luke Littler was crowned King to become the youngest ever PDC World Champion.
Born to reign supreme, the teenage sensation fulfilled his destiny with a majestic 7-2 victory over distinguished Dutchman, Michael van Gerwen to lift the famed Sid Waddell trophy.
With a much anticipated finalé of action on the iconic Ally Pally stage, it came down to a battle between two of the most exciting players on the planet jousting for the sport’s biggest prize.
Fans of Littler ignited as their hero burst into the perfect start, stealing the darts from the three-time World Champion to lead at the opening interval.
A comprehensive hold of throw allowed Littler to double his tally with a colossal 115 average before once again breaking the Green Machine’s throw and sail into a commanding 3-0 set advantage.
Better was to come for the youngster as he increased the gap further with another confident display to make it four without reply.
Mighty Mike then finally managed to get a notch on his belt, stopping the rampant Littler charge by clawing the deficit back to 4-1.
However, it was short-lived as the reigning Premier League Champion soon regained his four set cushion in a set which went the distance on throw.
Back came Van Gerwen to keep his hopes alive but the 17-year old was once again there to extinguish any flames and take a 5-2 lead.
Five soon became six with the Warringtonian bringing the finishing line into view, wrapping up a whitewash set to create a clear image of the chequered flag.
The decorated Dutchman was able to prolong the inevitable with another chalk on the board but minutes later the pyrotechnics lit up the Palace with Littler pinning double sixteen to create a moment of World Championship history.
